Fayetteville Area Transportation Museum is housed in the restored Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad depot. The museum focuses on the history of transportation in Cumberland County from native American times to the mid 20th-century.

Plans are in the works for the museum to add exhibits in the adjacent annex, such as an automotive display and the Fayetteville Fire Department’s Silsby Pumper, currently housed in the barn section.

Exhibits focus on:

• Early roads and military use of roads at various periods
• Plank roads
• Stage line
• Wagons, drays and buggies
• Buggy-harness shop
• Extensive railroad history
• Fayetteville’s early trolley
• Camp Bragg (now Fort Bragg) mounted soldiers and circa 1918 Camp Bragg transportation modes
• Re-adaptive uses of the museum building, through its decline and restoration process
• Old farm wagon and tack
